2005/2006 was an incredibly prolific time for me, and songs like Laying Under River came from this period where my writing had taken on a new level of confidence and daring in its complexity. For me this remains one of my favourite ever songs I penned, and I only wished it had been given a better studio treatment. Played live but perhaps not commercial enough to cut though, its a song that still haunts me, and with one my favourite dystopian lyrics.

burning of the coal train.
Lines through the gravel, incoherent who
knows, I know what they could say.
Quiet at the back of the restless divide, a
labyrinth to their way.

Power is the stone crushed under chariot
